Communications Specialist
VALDOSTA ? A native of Valdosta, Carolyn Gee Gish, 51, recently joined the faculty of Valdosta State University?s James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education. She is a temporary instructor in the Department of Early Childhood and Special Education.
Gish said that she sought a teaching position at VSU because it ?is a very progressive, innovative educational institution that cares deeply about the success of its students and faculty.? She earned both a bachelor?s degree and master?s degree from VSU.
Prior to joining the VSU family, Gish spent nearly three decades working in various positions within the Valdosta City and Lowndes County school systems. She taught students in every grade level from prekindergarten through sixth and was named a member of the Valdosta City School System?s 1991 Textbook Adoption Committee, a prekindergarten resource coordinator for the Lowndes County School System, W.G. Nunn Elementary School?s kindergarten grade chairwoman, and Dewar Elementary School?s Community Partners in Education coordinator, 2008 Teacher of the Year, and Social Committee chairwoman.
Gish noted that her greatest strengths are encouraging parent involvement, working as a member of a team, organizing events and activities, working with students and parents from diverse backgrounds, and believing in and supporting the pursuit of staff development training. ?
During the fall semester, Gish is teaching ECSE 3010: Introduction to Assessment, Planning, and Instruction and ECED 3190: Early Childhood Practicum and Seminar: PreK-K.
Gish and her husband, Mark, have two daughters, Alden and Erin. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, swimming, and painting.
