This year we started what will become a tradition for Pre-K families, Family Game Night.
Families had an option to bring their favorite game or play a board game that we provided. They were paired up, 2 families per table, and sat at our new fancy round cafeteria tables that foster a sense of community. The rules were to play any game you want with the family you?ve been paired with, take turns, and just have fun.? Families also had an opportunity to walk around and try other new games.
The games ranged from traditional games like Loteria to games that families created themselves, like a shape game.
When we initially thought of game night we thought ?Really? Game night? Will it be that exciting?? It turned out to be a lot of fun! We even overheard families planning future get-togethers. One parent commented that even though they have board games at home she doesn?t always have time to sit down with her kids and just play. It was an opportunity to have her kids play without anyone fussing.
Parents were being great models by playing with their kids and showing them how to take turns and not argue about the game.
Families left with a pamphlet (family fun night) we created containing more ideas and games you can play especially while in the car. The games were some we?ve used and others that we searched for on the internet. They?re educational, short, but lots of fun. The pamphlet also included the benefits of spending time with your children like creating strong emotional bonds, better communication, and less behavioral problems.
All in all, the kids had fun playing games with their families and friends. Parents got some new ideas.
?
But I think in the end, the parents had much more fun getting to play Loteria!
